I am a strawberry blonde femail, 5'6", divorced with two grown sons. For the last 19 years I have been employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Louisville, Ky.
My college years started in 1968 at Morehead State University, Kentucky and ended in 1986 at Indiana University, Indiana, Southeast. In the early 1970's, I migrated to southern Indiana and never left. Although my first love has always been science, I graduated with a B.S. in Business Management and an M.S. in Counseling. My plan is to retire soon from the postal service and spend more time on my pet projects, feral cat T-N-R, Trap-Neuter-Release and Eastern box turtle rehabilitation.
My three bedroom home is actually a one bedroom with an office and an animal sanctuary. I share this home with 4 cats, three calicos and a tortoise shell, all are ferals whom I rescued and rehabilitated. The box turtles stay with me until they heal and can be released back to nature.
My grandfather, John Oehrle, was born in Launen, Switzerland. My family came to America in the early 1900's. Grampa started one of the first dairies in Louisville, Ky. I grew up on real cow milk and real swiss cheese. Years ago, I was able to visit Switzerland and walk along the same path Grampa walked the cows as a child. It was an awesome experience, feeling totally insignificant standing in a meadow of wildflowers dwarfed by the majestic Alps.
Following in my grandfather's footsteps, I believe in the Puritan work ethic. I am up every morning at 4:30, reading or doing paperwork. My job at USPS supports my habit(volunteering). My spare time is filled with community service projects, our Optimist Club, Master Gardeners, SIBS, Alley Cat Advocates, Camp Quality, Hand in Hand Ministries, American Wildlife Federation, Defenders of Wildlife, Paralyzed Veterans of America Kentucky & Indiana Chapter, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Wilderness Society, Best Friends, HEART, or where ever a helping hand is needed.
Helping others, no matter how small the effort, enriches not only my life but allows me to be a positive role model for others. My passion is to help others, especially the children, to live their lives to the fullest with improved health and wellness. You are probably asking how and why do I spend all my free time involved with kids, turtles, feral cats and the like. The answer is simple. I truly believe we all are meant to spend our lives as stewards of this earth, to do good works and follow the example of Jesus by caring for ALL OF OUR Father's creations.
Sincerely,
Beverly Oehrle
